About Andreas
I approach bodywork through a lifelong fascination with body mechanics. Every person cultivates a signature way of moving based on their physical structure, personality, and exposure to their daily environment. While signatures remain recognizable, penmanship — so to speak — can always be improved with conscious effort. Through integrative bodywork, I strive to help you find the calm you need to refine your body's signature.
I received my bodywork training and 570-hour certification at Alive & Well! Institute of Conscious Bodywork in the modalities of deep-tissue, sports massage, and neuromuscular reprogramming (NMR). NMR is a bodywork and muscle-testing system geared toward releiving pain and improving motor control and coordination.
My personal pursuits are very much related to the direction I take in bodywork. I have been training in the Japanese martial art of aikido at San Francisco Aikikai since 1995, and I currently hold the rank of shodan, or first-degree black belt. Aikido is my primary, ongoing means of improving my own somatic penmanship: physical, mental, and spiritual. I love aikido for the way it has helped me develop my body awareness, my sensitivity for the dialog of touch, and my functional understanding of body mechanics. Like bodywork, aikido informs my whole being as to how to remain centered and calm.
I am also an avid and lifelong cyclist. I love technical singletrack mountain bike riding, and my wheeled exuberance extends to mountain bike trials (obstacle course riding), and mountain unicycling (yep, it's what it sounds like: one wheel and frequent, infectious grinning).
